A new home for old textiles

The Church Workroom at the Convent of St. John Baptist is lined with cabinets and drawers filled with the most extraordinary treasures. Many items have laid there for over 100 years. While always carefully handled most of these textiles are very fragile and need a new way to be stored.

I have begun lining all the wooden drawers with Tyvek barrier paper as well as placing Tyvek interleaving between the layers of stored textiles. Replacing the previous cloth covers now allows for much less abrasion and more room for the stored items.

Next step will be an inventory and then cataloging.
